A Soho House for Blockchain Lovers.
In recent years, we have witnessed the rise of NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and their growing influence on the world of blockchain technology. From art to gaming, NFTs have proven to be a valuable tool for creating unique digital assets that can be owned and traded. However, one area that has not yet been explored fully is the use of NFTs for access control. That is until now. Introducing Hash House - the first lounge in the world where access is controlled via NFTs. We created this lounge as a new concept that utilizes NFTs to grant access to a private space. The idea behind this lounge is simple - instead of using a physical key or a card, visitors will be required to hold an NFT in order to gain entry.
In 2021, we opened Hash House as the first lounge in the world with NFT-based access control in Medellin, Colombia. Medellin was chosen due to its thriving technology and innovation community.
The city has become a hub for blockchain enthusiasts and entrepreneurs, with a growing number of businesses and startups focused on the technology. Additionally, the city's commitment to innovation and willingness to embrace new ideas make it an ideal place to launch this new concept. Furthermore, the timing was perfect to launch Hash House in Medellin. The use of NFTs for access control was a relatively new concept at the time, and there was a growing interest in the technology within the local community. By launching Hash House at this time, we were able to tap into this growing interest and provide a new and innovative use case for NFTs. So, how does it work? First, visitors will need to apply for membership with Hash House. Our team will review the application and determine if the applicant aligns with the mission of Hash House. If approved, the applicant will be able to purchase the lounge's NFT, which grants access to the lounge. The NFT is stored on the blockchain and can not be transferred between individuals while valid, after membership is over they are treated as collectibles. This innovative approach to access control has many benefits. For one, it ensures that only authorized individuals can enter the lounge. Additionally, since the NFT is stored on the blockchain, there is no need for physical keys or cards that can be lost or stolen. But this is just the beginning. The use of NFTs for access control has enormous potential in a wide variety of applications. For example, it could be used for granting access to secure facilities, controlling entry to events, or managing access to digital content.
